The Vine Wine Bar is not only a place to stop and get a drink or two, but recently, it’s been a place where money’s raised to support a cause.
Last April, Lynn Mione, who grew up in Bellmore and who owns the Vine Wine Bar, organized a fundraiser to raise funds for St. Jude Children’s Research hospital, a cause that was near and dear to her late mother’s heart. Mione’s mother lost her battle with cancer. The Vine Wine Bar not only holds the yearly fundraiser in her memory, but there are items on the menu that contribute to cancer research as well.
“We carry a line of wines that’s called “One Hope,”’ Mione said. “Half of the proceeds from our purchases of the bottles go to charity.”
There have been other wines on the menu that have helped raise funds for the cause as well.
“We always have something on the menu that will go to a charity of sorts,” Mione said. “I tend to gravitate towards breast cancer awareness because it’s near and dear to my heart.”
After Hurricane Sandy struck, Mione and her staff focused on how they could help, and that included hosting a fundraiser for Long Beach Long Island. Anyone who wrote a check to the Red Cross or brought in supplies to the Vine Wine Bar was given a free glass of wine, and the staff loaded up the materials to be delivered to Long Beach personally.
“If you’re in a position where you can rent out your place to help, why the heck not?” Mione said.
“We all know someone who lost their house,” Mione added. “Two of my friends lost their home, and it was a no-brainer to help those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.”
